The Philippines is a country of more than 7,000 Islands with a population of 104 million. The Philippines has three main geographical islands namely Luzon,Visayas and Mindanao. The Filipinos are family oriented and often religious with an appreciation for art, music and food. The desire ,to see a better Philippines for the next generation and to contribute to the country’s sustainable development,is an essential part of their being.

Our country has suffered a lot and has been colonized by some of the countries such as Japan, Spain, the United States of America, and more. However, with the love and unity of the Filipinos and our Philippine Heroes, the country has been free and independent ever since. Filipinos are known for their hospitality for others and for their own kind. One of the characteristics that Filipinos have is being resourceful, being united as one, and for their pride especially during hard times.

These characteristics helped them to fight for their lives to gain freedom and peace during war. Filipinos are not fond of leaving anyone behind, and that is called “Bayanihan” which refers to a spirit of communal unity and cooperation One of the most inspiring Bayanihan acts in our country is volunteering to help especially during Typhoon Yolanda where thousands of lives were lost and Filipinos tried their very best to lift each other up to overcome this heartbreaking tragedy.

In addition, Filipinos have Non-Government Organizations that assist people without asking anything in return. Furthermore, it is in the culture of the Filipinos to be resilient especially in times of calamities and catastrophes, Filipinos always manage to rise above the challenge. Instead of wallowing, they manage to pick themselves up and smile.

Filipinos take pride in their families in everything that they do and also to make the country proud. It’s been years that Filipinos have given their blood, sweat, and tears to give service to people, specifically our Overseas Filipino Workers who work hard to earn money for their families. Filipinos have the integrity to work hard as one to provide solutions to the conflicts that the country faces. Our history has shaped and molded us to become better Filipinos to inspire and motivate people that working together is better than thinking only for yourself.

On a final note, Philippine history, and its Bayanihan system taught us how helping one another can make a difference especially in solving problems and in difficult times.
